Vinnie’s Italian Iron Works in Cobble Hill is a living tribute to Brooklyn's industrial past, having served as a fully operational workshop for 63 years. As the wave of gentrification approaches, the 87-year-old owner, Vinnie, contemplates letting go of his lifelong passion for ironwork and his cherished aspirations. The documentary film "Splendido," helmed by director Sophie Mager, has been chosen for screening at the New York Independent Art Film Fest at the Producers Club on November 17th.

With a background of over twenty years in creating commercials and films, Sophie is driven by a deep sense of nostalgia that motivates her to capture and preserve stories, a passion that took root when she received her first camera at the age of 10.

Upon stepping into Vinnie's workshop, Sophie was entranced by the layers of history reflected in aged photographs and the patina of dirt on the walls. She viewed the workshop as a time capsule, honoring a lifetime of dedication and brimming with poignant memories, both uplifting and challenging.

Feeling compelled to immortalize the essence of the workshop and the lives intertwined with it, Sophie believed that this distinctive space, at a critical juncture in the company's future, should be safeguarded as a symbol of the hard work and commitment that form the foundation of the American Dream.

The interplay between father and son, as well as the sacrifices made across generations to uphold the dream, fascinated Sophie. The dream, envisioned for future descendants and subsequent lineages, demanded continual sacrifices to perpetuate its legacy.
