In sharing their mastectomy stories, these eight women courageously shed light on a deeply personal journey that often remains shrouded in silence. By defying societal norms that dictate the necessity of reconstruction post-mastectomy, they challenge the very foundations of beauty standards and the pressure to conform to a certain physical ideal. Their narratives not only unveil the emotional and physical complexities of undergoing such a life-altering procedure but also serve as a powerful testament to self-acceptance and resilience.

Moreover, these women's accounts bring to the forefront the dark realities of the breast implant industry, exposing the profit-driven motives that often prioritize financial gain over patient well-being. Through their experiences, they highlight the systemic issues within the healthcare sector, where policies and practices may perpetuate harm rather than prioritize the holistic health and safety of individuals.

By amplifying their voices and sharing their truths, these women not only empower themselves but also create a platform for others to feel seen, heard, and validated in their own journeys. Their stories serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of advocating for informed consent, patient autonomy, and a healthcare system that prioritizes the well-being of individuals above all else.

Breasts Not Required is a short documentary directed by Seth Thompson and Hannah Sullivan. The film is screening at the Producers Club on November 17th as an official selection of the New York Independent Art Film Fest.

Hannah & Seth have worked together as a creative duo, partnering with ArtPeers and Dance In The Annex on various art, screendance, and experimental films. Their collaborative approach, supported by both production companies, allows them the flexibility to switch between the roles of Director, Editor, and Producer seamlessly. This collaborative spirit is what brings forth authentic human narratives with unfiltered content, intense emotions, and a daring edge. Their films have been showcased to audiences across four continents and in numerous festivals, with some even receiving awards that delight us.
